What is Ceremonial Grade Matcha?

Ceremonial grade matcha powder is the highest grade matcha green tea coming from the tea leaves grown on our organic farm and taken from the first harvest. The first-harvest leaves are the youngest and most tender which also gives them a deeper and more vibrant color due to the higher concentration of chlorophyl. This premium process makes our organic Japanese matcha powder the best ceremonial grade matcha, ideal for mixing with hot water alone.

Our ceremonial grade matcha powder is designed with the highest standards in accordance with the traditional Japanese tea ceremony, called chanoyu. Our traditionally-cultivated Encha matcha powder is meticulously made in stone grinders for the finest quality texture and flavor, and the most authentic experience of any other matcha powder.

Organic Ceremonial Matcha vs. Culinary Matcha Grades

The difference between ceremonial grade matcha and culinary matcha powders can be found in the way they are harvested, as well as the way they taste and look. Japanese ceremonial matcha powder is the highest grade. It is only taken from the premium first harvest leaves which gives it a more vibrant green hue and a less bitter flavor making it perfect for enjoying according to the ceremonial tradition, with just hot water. Culinary matcha on the other hand is ground from premium second harvest leaves giving it a more earthy flavor with a nutty finish, making it most suitable for cooking, baking, and smoothies. Culinary grade matcha powder has a less vibrant green color, however, the health benefits are equal across all matcha powder grades.

Many expensive matcha brands claim to have ceremonial grade powder, when in fact they aren't even shade-grown or using the youngest tea leaves, meaning, you could be paying for ceremonial grade matcha powder and receiving the equivalent of culinary grade matcha. The Most Delicious Matcha Ever

I began drinking matcha 2 months ago after quitting coffee in March 2025 due to it giving me anxiety & jitters that made me feel awful and lethargic. I drank regular green tea to substitute & felt better, but really missed my creamy coffee. My best friend suggested I try matcha which I never thought to do. I never understood the rage. She told me her daughter loved it so much & I should give it a try. I researched different brands & prices. I selected Encha based on reviews, the vibrant color & it being organic. The quality impressed me before I ordered. I began making lattes with vanilla almond milk with the ceremonial grade and fell in absolute love! This makes me feel utterly wonderful! I get sustained & calm energy along with the most delicious tasting lattes. I ventured out and bought a cheaper matcha upon recommendation & that was such a nasty mistake I won't make again. I ran out of this one day and went to a cafe near my home to pick up a matcha. Although delicious, it's not Encha & missed the mark for me with the depth & smoothness of taste. I couldn't wait for the 17.6 oz bag to become available & it just arrived yesterday putting my heart at ease...that's how much I adore this item! I intend on taking it with me on my upcoming vacation & having it every day, at least twice a day for life.
